Structure of Nanomaterials
Nanomaterials Structure
Structure of anything material means how the various parts of the material are arranged to make that thing. For instance, the structure of solid can be amorphous, crystalline or polycrystalline based on the arrangement of atoms.
Basic Properties
• Nanomaterials are mostly crystalline metals or semiconductors ( amorphous and insulator type nanomaterials do exist)
•Atoms in a crystal are generally pictured as being arranged on an imaginary lattice in space
•There are seven different crystal systems.
The crystals are distinguished based on the unit cell and the name of the unit cell is listed below:
Unit Cell:
The smallest group of atoms of a substance that has the overall symmetry of a crystal of that substance, and from which the entire lattice can be built up by repetition in three dimensions.
